Q: What are the main differences among the three OPPO Up-Converting DVD players?
A: All three players are excellent DVD players with high definition up-conversion. The DV-981HD and OPDV971H emphasizes more on the video performance and the DV-970HD emphasizes more on the overall performance and value. The main differences are:

Video Processing Technology:

• The DV-981HD and OPDV971H features video processing with "DCDi by Faroudja" technology and video chipset by Genesis/Faroudja; the DV-970HD uses a different chipset and technology for video de-interlacing and up-conversion. While all three players produce excellent picture quality and the difference is subtle, the "DCDi by Faroudja" technology is able to handle some tricky video contents. On very large TV or projector screens, the difference could be noticed by experts or videophiles. When benchmarked with contents designed to test video performance, the DV-981HD and OPDV971H will score higher than the DV-970HD.

Output Resolution:

• The DV-981HD supports output resolution up to 1080p. If your TV or projector has a native resolution of 1920x1080 and can accept the 1080p signal, the DV-981HD is highly recommended.
• The DV-970HD and OPDV971H support output resolution up to 720p/1080i, suitable for most HDTV and home theater projectors.
• The DV-970HD supports 480i/576i native resolution over HDMI. If you use an external video signal processor with HDMI input the DV-970HD is highly recommended.

SACD Playback:

• The DV-981HD and DV-970HD supports Super Audio CD (SACD) in addition to DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Audio CD etc. supported by the OPDV971H model.

Convenience Features:

• The DV-981HD and DV-970HD feature HDMI output for digital video and audio, and are more convenient for connecting to a TV or A/V receiver with HDMI input. Both models can still support HDTV with DVI input via an HDMI-DVI adapter.
• The OPDV971H has a DVI output for digital video. It is more suitable for HDTV with DVI input and is less likely to have signal compatibility issues due to HDMI to DVI conversion. It can still support HDTV with HDMI input using the included DVI-HDMI cable. Since DVI does not carry audio, you will need to connect the audio output to the TV.
• The DV-970HD has a flash memory card reader and USB interface while the DV-981HD and OPDV971H do not.
