OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player

CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 15 -- Anchor Bay, a leading supplier of video-processing semiconductors (ASICs) and systems, revealed today that OPPO Digital has incorporated the ABT2010 video processing chip in the award-winning BDP-83 Blu-ray disc player. In the BDP-83, the chip provides the benefits of Anchor Bay's Video Reference Series (VRS), which enables a high level of image control and delivers flawless performance for both Blu-ray discs and standard DVDs, with upscaling to 1080p.

After numerous rave reviews for its video and audio performance, this player has become the industry reference for performance in its price class. With HDMI 1.3 output and up to 36-bit Deep Color support, the BDP-83 can scale all sources to any standard resolution up to 1080p, at either 50 or 60 Hz, as well as 1080p-24 playback of Blu-ray discs. The BDP-83 produces a true-to-life picture free of artifacts with Anchor Bay's VRS technologies including Precision Deinterlacing™, Precision Video Scaling™, Progressive Cadence Detection™, MPEG noise reduction and picture enhancement.

"The ABT2010 chip was an easy choice to power the video performance of our new Blu-ray player," said Jason Liao, vice-president of product development at OPPO Digital. "We use the ABT2010 in our DV-983H upscaling DVD player, where it performs superbly. With the chip's highly competitive cost and Anchor Bay's engineering staff facilitating its integration into the new player, we were able to hit our budget and make the BDP-83 extremely affordable while getting today's best performance."

"We are very pleased to continue our working relationship with OPPO Digital," said Doug Fealtman, CEO at Anchor Bay. Our team was excited about the opportunity to incorporate our VRS technologies into OPPO's first Blu-ray player, and the player's extraordinary reception by reviewers and end users is validation of both Anchor Bay and OPPO's ability to deliver extraordinary audio and video performance at a price level well below the competition."

ABT 2010 Video Processing Chip

The ABT2010 video processing chip features Anchor Bay's Video Reference Series™ (VRS™) 10-bit Precision Video Scaling™ and Precision Deinterlacing™, as well as Anchor Bay's patented Progressive Re-Processing (PReP™), a breakthrough technology that improves poor picture quality caused by other deinterlacers. The chip also provides Mosquito Noise Reduction, Detail and Edge Enhancement, Progressive Cadence Detection, AutoCUE-C™, Precision AV LipSync™, and supports HDMI 1.3 with Deep Color™ and xvYCC colorimetry capabilities, and allows all formats to be passed-through for maximum system design flexibility.

BDP-83 Blu-ray Player

In addition to its ability to produce superb images, the BDP-83 has a rich array of features for serious videophiles and audiophiles alike. Users can make easy selection of aspect ratios, including black bar removal and stretch modes, a special mode for use with projectors incorporating an anamorphic lens to display 2.35 aspect ratios at full screen height. Capable of displaying well-mastered standard DVDs at 1080p-24, the BDP-83 also has a frame rate conversion capability that allows PAL format movies to be output in NTSC format with no loss of resolution or image tearing.

The BDP-83's audio quality is also exceptional. It supports all the high-resolution audio formats with bit-stream output and onboard decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. For SACD playback, the BDP-83 supports direct DSD over HDMI and DSD-to-analog without any PCM conversion, a unique feature. The BDP-83 features a refined analog audio stage with a pair of dedicated stereo as well as 7.1-channel outputs.

The BDP-83 is a full-featured Blu-ray Disc player that supports BD Profile 2.0 (BD-Live and BonusView) with 1GB of internal storage. Users can appreciate its quick start-up, fast disc loading and responsive operation. The front and back USB 2.0 ports enable easy access to music, photo and video including AVCHD and MKV formats. Additional convenient features include a remote control with backlight, IR in and out ports, optional RS-232 control and wireless bridge kit.

Available now for an estimated retail price of $499, the BDP-83 can be ordered directly from OPPO Digital through their www.oppodigital.com web site and from authorized resellers.
